Snake Leopard Clinic
The snake is a master when it comes to avoiding attack, baiting its opponent, and striking with speed and accuracy. However, it is also very clever. The Snakes knowledge of what angles to attack from, makes its already lightning-fast strikes, completely unnoticed until you feel it BITE.
The Snake is unique in that it has the least types of strikes it can use, and the least amount of acceptable variation on the strikes of its style. It is also unique in that the Snake often moves from a single point of balance to an attack without any balance at all, then all in one movement, back to its original stance with little or no variation in that stance. This leaves the Snake vulnerable, but the Snake compensates in its ability to avoid its opponent’s counter-attack with an instantaneous reaction time.
The Leopard’s strength is in its ability to strike fast and hard while maintaining a strong balanced stance. Because of the Leopard’s need to “keep its footing”, it is slower to reach its target than the Snake. The Leopard needs to strike with maximum power, as it has to be able to defeat larger predators. Its angles of attack are not hidden like the Snakes, at least not in the initial engagement.
The Leopard does have more tools at its disposal than the Snake and can “take an opponent down” where a Snake cannot.
It’s easy to become impressed with the Snake & Leopard styles, after all, they teach formidable fighting skills. However, each of the animal styles is unique with its own advantages. It is not true to say that one, or two of the animal styles is the best. Like everything else we learn, there is often a “Best Way” for a particular situation. For this reason, Martial Arts Practitioners with their roots in Shaolin learn from all the animal styles. Shaolin Kempo Practitioners roots are primary in the Dragon, Tiger, Leopard, Crane & Snake.
This “Snake Leopard Clinic” is not a “Snake & Leopard Clinic”, it is a clinic that shows you how to fuse the complimentary aspects of these two formidable styles into one, creating powerful and dynamic fighting techniques.
